Celebrating Detroit’s Young Artists
Creativity took center stage on February 9 at the 2026 DPSCD All City Visual Arts Exhibition, where more than 137 Detroit Public Schools Community District students showcased their artwork at the Detroit School of Arts. Meridian proudly partnered with DPSCD to celebrate these talented young creators and highlight the lasting impact of arts education on student confidence, emotional well‑being, and community connection.
A Showcase of Student Voice and Imagination
This year’s exhibition, themed “DPSCD Arts: Raising Students’ Voices,” featured an impressive range of mediums—including painting, photography, ceramics, jewelry, mixed media, and video art. Families, educators, community members, and local leaders came together to meet the artists, learn about their creative processes, and experience firsthand how visual expression helps students build identity and resilience.
Visitors were able to speak directly with student artists, creating an intimate and engaging environment that allowed young people to share the inspiration, challenges, and stories behind their work.
Meridian’s Commitment to Youth, Creativity, and Education
As part of its ongoing investment in youth and education across Michigan, Meridian donated $20,000 to help DPSCD teachers purchase art supplies for participating students. These resources empowered K–12 artists to experiment with new materials, refine their craft, and bring bold ideas to life.
“Art gives young people the confidence to express who they are and what they believe,” said Patty Graham, Plan President and CEO of Meridian. “Creative outlets like visual art can also support emotional health by helping students process feelings, build resilience, and feel seen. We’re proud to support this platform for Detroit students and loved engaging with the community on opening night.”
This investment builds on Meridian’s continued support for initiatives that uplift students, strengthen families, and expand access to creative and educational opportunities statewide.
Voices from DPSCD
For DPSCD educators, the exhibition offers students a rare opportunity to share their work with the broader community.
“This is one of the most intimate exhibitions,” said Andrew McGuire, Deputy Executive Director of Fine and Performing Arts for DPSCD. “Unlike stage performances, visual arts students interact directly with attendees and discuss their work. It’s a powerful experience for them to articulate their artistic choices and see their efforts honored by the community.”
Building a Stronger Creative Future for Detroit
The 2026 All City Visual Arts Exhibition brought together passion, talent, and the spirit of Detroit’s youth in a meaningful celebration of student voice. Meridian is honored to support DPSCD and the next generation of young creators who are shaping Detroit’s artistic future.
Through ongoing partnerships and community engagement initiatives, Meridian remains committed to championing programs that help students thrive—both inside and beyond the classroom.
