MichiCANS and LOCUS Assessment Requirements
Dear Provider Partners,
We would like to take a moment to remind providers of training requirements established by the Michigan Department of Health and Human services related to the Michigan Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (MichiCANS) and the Level of Care Utilization System (LOCUS).
Under the Michigan Medicaid Mental Health Framework, providers must use standardized assessment tools to evaluate the mental health needs of CHCP enrollees.
MichiCANS is designated for children and youth (under 21), and LOCUS is designated for adults (21 and older).
These requirements support the State’s transition for a more person-centered approach to care and are a key component in improving access, coordination, and consistency across the behavioral health system.
If you have any questions regarding your training completion status or need assistance accessing training resources, please reach out to Mental Health Framework team at MDHHS-MentalHlthFramework@michigan.gov.
We appreciate your continued partnership and commitment to delivering high-quality care to our members.
