Upcoming Changes to Michigan Medicaid Adult Dental Benefits
Effective January 1, 2027, dental services for adults enrolled in a Medicaid Health Plan will be provided through Healthy Kids Dental, serviced by Delta Dental of Michigan. This change does not affect dental services currently covered.
Continuity of Care Protections
When a member transitions to the new dental plan:
- Existing prior authorizations must be honored by the new plan for 90 days following enrollment.
- Members may request continuity of care for up to six months for ongoing treatment when discontinuing treatment could cause serious harm to their health.
Information for Dental Providers
Providers who do not accept HKD under Delta Dental of Michigan may choose to join the Delta Dental of Michigan provider network. Providers who do not enroll in the Delta Dental of Michigan provider network will have their impacted patients reassigned to a participating network provider beginning January 1, 2027. Information on joining the Delta Dental network is available on the Delta Dental Find a Dentist website.
Impacted members will receive notifications from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, their Medicaid Health Plan, and Delta Dental of Michigan before the transition.
